LAHORE, April 11: Justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif of the Lahore High Court on Monday served notice on a senior judge anti-corruption for disallowing the remand of suspended Ravi Town Nazim Amir Munir in a corruption case. The court admitted the appeal, moved through Barrister Saleem Sehgal by the Anti-Corruption Establishment, for regular hearing and adjourned further proceedings till April 18.
The appellant contended that two cases of corruption were registered against Mr Munir in early 2005. In the first case, he was charged with appropriating funds worth about Rs40 million. The anti-corruption court allowed the remand of the accused in the case.
The senior judge anti-corruption, however, declined a similar remand in the other case that charged the suspended Nazim with corruption of about Rs3.7 million. The subordinate court, according to the ACE, had rejected the remand plea on illegal grounds. —Correspondent
