Tiger leaps into contention
AUGUSTA (Georgia), April 10: Tiger Woods leaped into contention for his ninth major golf crown here on Saturday at the Masters, firing 12 birdies in 26 holes in a stunning show that could signal an end to his major title drought.

Woods began with a dramatic six-under par 66, the best round so far at storm-plauged Augusta National Golf Club, and finished with a sizzling five-under par 31 on the front nine before darkness halted third-round play.

After starting the second round on Friday sharing 33rd place and seven strokes off the pace, Woods entered in second place at nine-under par, four strokes behind leader Chris DiMarco and one ahead of Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn.

Displaying the long-absent form that made him a golf icon, Woods is within reach of his fourth Masters green jacket and a victory that would put him halfway to Jack Nicklaus’ record 18 career major titles.
