Rs341m investment secured for Kund tourism projects

PESHAWAR, April 10: The NWFP government has secured an investment of Rs341 million for different projects in the Kund National Park in Nowshera, including upgrading of a tourism complex, a hotel for tourists, a floating restaurant and a suspension bridge. “The Sarhad Tourism Corporation will encourage investment in the projects by giving technical assistance to investors in the Kund National Park, where rivers Indus and Kabul meet,” STC Managing Director Khushdil Khan told APP.

He said Rs120 million would be invested in the tourism complex project and the investors were likely to earn Rs120 million per year from it. He said the project’s annual operating cost would be Rs50 million and it would attract a large number of tourists to the park.

He said the corporation planned to establish a tourism hotel and floating restaurant with an estimated investment of Rs60 million, where affordable accommodation facilities would be available for tourists. He said the investor would earn Rs20 million per year from the hotel and the project would cost Rs100 million.

The official said the hotel would attract tourists who travelled from Peshawar to Islamabad and project a softer image of the country through its excellent landscape and rich biodiversity.

The provincial government, he said, had made a plan to construct a suspension bridge on rivers Indus and Kabul for entering the park.

Hydel projects: Minister of State for Water and Power Ameer Maqam said on Sunday that the completion of on-going mega hydel projects in NWFP will open up inaccessible areas and will ensure economic progress of the country.

Talking to a delegation of Malakand and addressing an open Kutcheri at his residence in Swat, he said, the government was striving hard to provide all basic facilities of life to the people at their doorstep. After the completion of ongoing projects, he said, people will get cheap electricity.—APP
