Portuguese naval chief arrives


ISLAMABAD, April 10: Admiral Francisco Antonio Torres Vidal Abreu, the Chief of Portuguese Naval Staff, arrived here Sunday on a week-long official visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Shahid Karimullah. He was received at the Islamabad airport by Rear Admiral Khushnud Ahmad.

Apart from holding discussions with his Pakistani counterpart, Admiral Abreu will call on President Pervez Musharraf, defence minister, chairman joint chiefs of staff committee and chief of air staff. In the second leg of his visit, the Portuguese naval chief will move to Lahore and visit the PN War College. This will be followed by his visit to Karachi where he will call on various administrative authorities of the Pakistan Navy. Admiral Abreu will also visit the submarine construction site at the PN Dockyard and board a type-21 ship and Agosta class submarine of the Pakistan Navy.—Our Reporter
