Inzamam defends Shoaib Malik
JAMSHEDPUR, April 9: Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq on Saturday defended his decision to use off-spinner Shoaib Malik during the Indian innings in the third One-Day match at the Keenan Stadium.

“I think, he has a fair bowling action. Anyway, the umpires and referee can report on him but so far they have not done so,” he said after the match.

Shoaib Malik was reported a few months back for suspect bowling action. He retains his place in the team for his batting and fielding but was not used as a bowler in the previous two matches of the six-match ODI series against India.

About the series, he said it would be a keenly contested affair in the coming matches. “We have to work even harder to compete against a good team like India in the coming matches”.

He said winning the toss in Saturday’s match was important. “India had won the toss each time and put us under pressure by piling up huge totals in the first match at Cochin and in the second one at Visakhapatnam”, he said.

“As such, I thought we could also put our rivals under pressure if we could put up a good total and thank God we succeeded in setting India a target of 320”, he said.

He said his strategy was simple for the match: The batsmen should see off a few overs before playing their shots and bowlers should bowl at good line and length throughout the rivals innings.

Inzamam said the victory was morale-boosting for his team in the coming matches which will be played at Ahmedabad (April 12), Kanpur (April 15) and Delhi (April 17).—APP
