Gulshan and Bashiran best athletes
LAHORE, April 9: Workshop Division maintained their supremacy in Railways Inter-divisional athletics championship retaining the “Walton Trophy” for the third successive time on Saturday at the Railways Stadium.

As Workshops Division won the overall trophy in the annual two-day meet, Multan Division retained the athletic trophy by securing 304 points leaving rivals at far distance at the points table on which Lahore took the runners up place with 212 points followed by Workshop Division which claimed 131 points.

In ten division-competition, Karachi collected 54 points, Sukkur 20, Quetta seven, Peshawar five and Railways Police were at the bottom with only four points.

About 400 athletes including 100 female athletes participated in the event in which Gulshan Masih of Workshops Division was declared the best male athlete of the championship. He won 500m, 1000m and 3000m, steeple chase besides finishing thirdc in 1500m.

The championship marked a new era in railways sports with the first ever appearance of their women athletes. Bashiran Bibi, an international female athlete from Multan Division got the honour of becoming the first best female athlete of the meet.

She struck outstanding performance by winning the 200m, 400m, 800m and broad bump events.

Bodybuilder,Imran Qureshi, weightlifter Wasif Hanif Butt, and karate player Madiha Ghafoor were declared outstanding sportsmen. Nasir Badshah and Maqsood Akhtar got the distinction of being the outstanding coaches.—APP
