KARACHI: Nazim orders provision of free drugs to TB patients
KARACHI, April 9: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan has directed the health centres of all the towns to provide free medicines as well as necessary information regarding method of using medicines and medical check-up to patients of tuberculosis.

He was presiding over a meeting of TB DOTS Programme at city government’s secretariat on Friday night. EDO Health, EDO Community Development, Chairman Community Development and some representatives of the WHO and NGOs attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the matters pertaining to curbing TB expansion, creating awareness about the disease, making health centres effective, treatment and provision of medicines to TB patients.

Niamatullah Khan stressed the need for early diagnosis of TB as it was a contagious disease, saying a campaign should be launched to curb expansion of this disease. He said that TB Control Programme could be made successful by cooperation of lady health workers. He pointed out that TB was found mostly in people of slum areas, therefore it was necessary to create awareness there about this disease. — PPI
