KARACHI: Suo motu action on fresh raid on JI office urged
KARACHI, April 9: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Saturday urged higher courts to take suo motu action on fresh raid at Jamat-i-Islami office, Idara Noor-i-Haq, which was conducted by law enforcement agency personnel clad in plain clothes.
This demand was made by MMA leader Senator Prof Ghafoor Ahmed while addressing a news conference at Idara Noor-i-Haq. Acting JI Karachi Amir Shaikh Rafique Ahmed, MMA MNAs Muhammad Hussain Mehnti, Abdul Sattar Afghani, Laiq Ahmed, MPAs Nasarullah Shajee, Younus Barai and Hamidullah Khan were also present on the occasion.
Prof Ghafoor said that the raid at JI office by law enforcing agency personnel in plain clothes was third in a row and it was probably aimed at arresting those 11 persons, who were held in explosives’ case and released recently by the court after found not guilty.
He said that 30 to 35 persons of a law-enforcing agency in plain clothes ransacked the office, remained there for hours and searched all the rooms, washrooms and every nook and corner for unknown reasons.
Prof Ghafoor Ahmed said that the MMA would meet tomorrow at Idara Noor-i-Haq to discuss the situation and decide future course of action. He said no untoward incident took place during MMA’s million marches and strike. However, he added, the JI office was raided; leaders and workers were booked in cases and when they were released by the court on government’s request, attempts were being made to arrest them.
He termed such raids at political parties registered with Election Commission of Pakistan as illegal and immoral.
In addition to Idara Noor-i-Haq, residence of JI leader Aslam Mujahid and other workers’ residences were also raided and police said they wanted to re-arrest them. “Instead of resorting to use cheap tactics, the government should pay attention towards genuine issues like poverty, price-hike, unemployment and promotion of vulgarity under the garb of enlightened moderation,” he suggested.
He said that the MMA did not want confrontation with the government as Pakistan could not bear the consequences of anarchy in these days. —PPI
