KARACHI: Rehabilitation of drug addicts
KARACHI, April 9: Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad underlined the imperative need for coordinated efforts for the rehabilitation of drug addicts.

Reviewing the situation in depth, the governor appointed the home and health departments as focal points for enforcement and rehabilitation tasks while information department was tipped as focal point to carry-out a massive awareness drive to arrest the situation. These focal points will work in coordination with the Anti-Narcotic Force, Sindh, which will serve as a focal point for the governor.

In the meeting, views were exchanged in detail about ways and means for the eradication of drug trafficking and rehabilitation of addicts in a scientific manner.

ACS Social Welfare Anwar Hyder gave a detailed presentation about the situation and pointed out that in central prison alone there were some 600 addicts and some 700 in the Landhi prison. It was emphasised that if immediate corrective measures were not taken for the rehabilitation of addicts, they would prove instrumental in raising the number of addicts.—APP
