KARACHI: MMA workers released, cases withdrawn, says home minister


KARACHI, April 7: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi said here on Thursday that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) workers arrested in Karachi and other cities of Sindh in connection with April 2 strike have been released and cases against them are being withdrawn in order to further improve the law and order situation. On the other hand, MMA, has withdrawn its protest day call for April 8 and held out an assurance to the home minister for full cooperation with the government in establishment of peace in Sindh, its prosperity and economic development.

A delegation of MMA leaders, comprising MNA Mohammed Hussain Mehanti, MPA Nasrullah Shajih, Secretary Information MMA Sindh Qari Mohammed Usman, Mohammed Hashim Siddiqi and Maulana Mohammed Ghayas, met the home minister Rauf Siddiqui at his office at 1 pm.

IGP Sindh Asad Jahangir, Home Secretary Brig Mohtaram, CCPO Tariq Jameel were also present.

It was decided in the meeting that as a gesture of goodwill and for the establishment of peace and prosperity in Sindh, the MMA workers arrested on April 2 strike day will be released and cases against them withdrawn.

The MMA delegation, on the occasion, assured the minister their full cooperation for maintaining peaceful conditions and to work collectively for the economic development and prosperity of Sindh.—APP
