15 years’ jail for Zarqawi

AMMAN, March 20: Jordan’s state security court sentenced Al Qaeda ally Abu Musab al Zarqawi in absentia to 15 years in jail and another Jordanian militant to three years on Sunday for a plot to attack Amman’s embassy in Baghdad. Zarqawi, Washington’s most wanted man in Iraq, and Miqdad al Dabbas were convicted of “conspiring to carry out terrorist acts” against Jordanian and American targets in Iraq, judicial sources said. Court documents said Mr Dabbas monitored the Jordanian embassy and passed on information about the compound and its security to Zarqawi. Mr Dabbas, who unlike Zarqawi is in custody, plans to appeal the verdict, his lawyer said.—Reuters
