Bomb damages facade of building used by Philippine president's husband: MANILA, March 20: An improvised bomb shattered the glass windows of a building in the Philippine financial district where President Gloria Arroyo's husband has an office, police said today. No one was hurt when the home-made bomb went off in front of the LTA building in the financial district of Makati before dawn, police spokesmen said. The bomb was believed to have been hurled during a street fight between two gangs but no further details were available, the police added. Lawyer Mike Arroyo, husband of President Gloria Arroyo, is known to have an office at the LTA building but it is unclear if the building was the target of the blast.    (AFP) (Posted @ 09:15 PST)

Twenty-one confirmed dead in China mine blast, four owners detained: BEIJING, March 20: Twenty-one people were confirmed dead today after a gas explosion at a coal mine in northern China, while four mine owners were detained on suspicion of defying an order to cease operations, state media said. Three people were killed when the powerful blast ripped through the Xishui colliery at Shuozhou city in Shanxi province, the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety said in a statement. The blast caused a wall to collapse at the neighboring Kangjiayao coal mine, crushing 18 workers, according to the statement. The number of fatalities could rise as 46 people were unaccounted for in the Xishui mine, while two were still missing from the Kangjiayao mine, the statement said. Authorities detained four owners of the Xishui mine, established in 1993 and with an annual output of 150,000 tonnes, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The mine was ordered to suspend production after safety problems last November, the agency said.    (AFP) (Posted @ 9:15 PST
