Harbhajan likely to play in 2nd Test

KOLKATA, March 14: “Turbanator” Harbhajan Singh has a chance of playing in the second cricket Test against Pakistan, coach John Wright said on Monday.

“Yes there is a chance of him making the side; he has done well here against South Africa and Australia and likes bowling here,” Wright told a press conference ahead of the match starting at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

Harbhajan, an off-spinner was cleared by the International Cricket Council after being reported for suspect bowling action during the second and final Test against Bangladesh in December.

Interestingly, he was reported by Englishman Chris Broad who is also the match referee for the on-going series, for his “doosra” delivery which spins away from the right-handers instead of coming into them like a normal off-break.

The bowler had to proceed to Australia to work with bio mechanics expert Bruce Elliott and benefited from ICC’s latest ruling on chucking which allows bowlers to bend their elbows by up to 15 degrees.

Wright would not say who would be dropped to accommodate the spinner.

“I wouldn’t want to speculate on that, we will just pick the best combination keeping in mind the wicket. We’ll select a side, which the selectors and the captain feel can win you the match.”

He said that the draw in the first Test at Mohali had left his boys even more hungry to get the result that they had wanted.
