ISLAMABAD, March 10: In the global perspective, Pakistan was very important country for cotton and textile production and had the potential of becoming a key-force in the worldwide cotton and textile market place.

This was stated by the Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal), Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan while presiding over a meeting of the task force on production of contamination free cotton here.

The task force reviewed the present status of the raw cotton and textile production in the country with particular reference to its quality and value in the international market.

Quality improvement of the raw material through market mechanism was, however, the pre-requisite, he added.

He said that for the purpose, an integrated and collaborated approach by all the stakeholders would necessarily be required for the production of high quality and contamination-free cotton.

It was, however, realized that the present cotton marketing system needed to be transformed and based on grade and staple.—APP
