ISLAMABAD, March 7: People's Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Senator Farhatullah Khan Babar has submitted a bill to the Senate Secretariat seeking amendment to the law, which provides death penalty to constitutional subverters.
Talking to Dawn here on Monday, the PPP senator said he had introduced the "Punishment for High Treason (Amendment) Bill" because he believed the existing law had so far failed to prevent military interventions and subversion of the Constitution.
Giving salient features of the bill, Mr Babar said he had suggested that a "National Register of Shame and Horror" should be maintained in the country. He said the register, which could be called 'black book', would carry the names of all traitors and their abetters.
He said when medal distribution ceremony would be held on August 14 every year, the names of these constitutional sub verters would be called in public to condemn them. The bill, he said, had also suggested that the sub verters could also be handed over life imprisonment.
