Telephone exchange set ablaze in Sui: ISLAMABAD, Mar 06: Unknown attackers set a telephone exchange on fire in Sui, cutting its telecommunication links with rest the country but causing no causalities, officials said on today. The exchange supervisor told Deutsche-Presse Agentur dpa the incident took place early today when his technicians finished some repair work in the 1000-line exchange set up in a huge container. "They (attackers) sprinkled kerosene on all equipment and gave it fire after tying security guards there," he quoted a security guard as saying. "Now the entire (Dera Bugti) district's telecommunication links have been severed with other parts of country," he said. India is currently placed third (108 rating points), behind leaders Australia (130) and England (110). But if the India beat Pakistan 2-0, India's ratings would shoot to 111, which will give them the second spot, the ICC said in a statement here. (Reuters) (Posted @ 08:40 PST) First session of new Iraqi parliament on March 16: BAGHDAD, Mar 06: The first session of the new Iraqi parliament will be held on March 16, the 17th anniversary of the gassing by forces of toppled dictator Saddam Hussein of the Kurdish town of Halabja in northern Iraq, top officials told AFP. "We are agreed that the first session of parliament will take place on March 16, the anniversary of the chemical bombing of the Kurdish town of Halabja by the former regime of Saddam Hussein on March 16, 1988," said Deputy Prime Minister and top Kurdish official Barham Saleh. (AFP) (Posted @ 15:00 PST) Senior Iraqi politician resigns in protest over delayed government: Baghdad, Mar 06: A leading member of the United Iraqi Alliance which won the majority of votes in the January elections resigned from the Shiite bloc today in protest against delays in forming a new government, Iraq's state television al-Irakiya reported. Abdul Karim al-Mohammedawi, the leader of Iraq's Hezbollah and ex- member of the former provisional governing council, was the latest in a growing number of critics deploring that Iraq's new national assembly has not begun work more than a month after the polls. (DPA) (Posted @ 15:00 PST) Israel may hand over Jordanian prisoners-official : JERUSALEM, Mar 06: Israel may release about 20 Jordanian prisoners from its jails to Jordanian custody, a senior Israeli official said. He said Israel would seek to satisfy demands raised by visiting Foreign Minister Hani Mulki, but objected to freeing the men because they have all been convicted by Israeli courts of involvement in attacks against Israelis. Israel accuses Syria of being involved in terrorism: JERUSALEM, Mar 06: Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom today accused Syria of being involved in terrorism and reiterated its demand for a total withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon. "The Syrians are dangerous. They have always been involved in terrorist attacks on Israel on the one hand, and on Americans in Iraq on the other," Shalom said on Israeli public radio before leaving for the United States. (DPA) (Posted @ 08:40 PST) Troops martyr 6 more Kashmiri youth: SRINAGAR, Mar 06: The Indian troops, in their continuing state-terrorism, martyred six Kashmiri youth, reports Kashmir Media Service. Of those martyred, three Kashmiris were shot dead in New Delhi, in a fake encounter, on the pretext of being Mujahideen, and three dead bodies of Kashmiri youth were recovered, two of these at Gakgyal Dhok, in Surankote area and one from Charal village of Mendhar area in Poonch district. The local people said, the three youth were martyred by troops in custody with savage ruthlessness. They added that the two dead bodies were beheaded and one was cut into four pieces.
