Passengers evacuated as PIA plane catches fire in England: LONDON, March 01: More than 300 passengers were evacuated today from a Pakistan International Airlines plane after it caught fire after landing at Manchester Airport, airport officials said. The flight from Karachi to Toronto, which had stopped in Manchester to refuel, had just landed and was taxiing when a fire broke out in the undercarriage, an airport spokesman told AFP. All 323 passengers on the plane were evacuated without injury, he added. As per sources, party's central figure and close friend of Zardari, Khalid Javed Ghurki had purposed him to reach Lahore which he accepted. Earlier, he wanted to launch his political struggle from the Azad Kashmir. Karzai's spokesman Jawed Ludin told a news briefing today that General Abdul Rashid Dostum had held a number of meetings with the president in Kabul and that the possibility of Dostum taking a government post had been discussed. Afghan officials considering issuing IDs for Taliban amnesty: KABUL, March 01: Afghan government and U.S.-led coalition forces are considering issuing special identification cards for those former Taliban fighters who join the ongoing reconciliation process offered by U.S. and Afghan government, a presidential spokesman said today. Nearly two months ago U.S. ambassador to Kabul Zalmay Khalilzad called on Taliban fighters to accept a reconciliation offered by the Afghan government and in return the U.S. forces would not target them. "In order to put the reconciliation process into practice, a mechanism is needed for those Taliban who are feeling afraid that maybe they will face problems. Issuing of IDs is one of the proposals that have been made between Afghan officials and coalition forces," Jawed Ludin, the spokesman for Afghan president, told reporters. "He is now in a very small cell. He is not allowed to meet either his attorneys or his family," Khassawneh said on a visit to Japan at the invitation of a civic group. "He doesn't have any TV, no radio and he is not allowed to read newspapers. He knows nothing about what is going on in Iraq or the world," he said. The official, who asked not to be identified, confirmed that "it has been suggested to Zarqawi to involve himself in attacks in the US." (AFP) (Posted @ 10:15 PST) Iran rejects more inspections of military facility, IAEA: VIENNA, Mar 01: Iran has refused to allow IAEA inspectors to conduct more inspections at its Parchin military facility near Teheran, according to a report released today. At the beginning of January, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts were allowed to inspect five buildings of their choice at the military facility, Pierre Goldschmidt, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Safeguards told the agency's board of governors. The inspection was Teheran's so-called "confidence building measure". Iran was not obliged to allow the inspection, IAEA sources said. The IAEA had contacted Iran in a bid to facilitate more inspections.
