Musharraf not to be accepted in any case: Hashmi - LAHORE, Feb 22: Acting president of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PPP-N) Makhdoom Javed Hashmi has said that the step taken by the former premier Mian Nawaz Sharif on October 12, 1999 has been justified and president Gen. Pervez Musharraf despite all his protective measures can not save his skin. He expressed these remarks while talking to PML-N's leaders Begum Tehmina Daultana, Saba Sadiq, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Kamran Micle on occasion of his appearance in the NAB Court here today. He said the president Gen. Musharraf in uniform or without it would not be accepted at any cost. He said the country due to military rule was in a grip of poverty, dearness, and unemployment, murder incidents and law and order situation. FM Kasuri backs Security Council bid of Japan but not India: TOKYO, Feb 22: Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri voiced support today for Japan's goal of a permanent seat on the UN Security Council but had reservations about the bid of India, a diplomat said. Kasuri held talks with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on the situation in Pakistan's neighbor Afghanistan and Japan's plans to resume yen loans to Islamabad among other issues, Pakistani ambassador to Japan Kamran Niaz said. In a separate meeting Kasuri told Japan's main opposition leader Katsuya Okada that there should be "objective criteria" on choosing members of an enlarged UN Security Council.    (AFP) (Posted @ 15:45 PST)

National Assembly meets: ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: The National Assembly will meet on Wednesday evening in the parliament house building, Islamabad. President General Pervez Musharraf had summed the session. Iran, India, Pakistan push pipeline project: ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI, Feb 22: Having persuaded India to join plans for a cross-border gas pipeline, Iran and Pakistan kept up diplomatic momentum today to make the long talked about $4 billion project a reality. Electricity tower damaged by explosion: QUETTA, Feb 22: A tower of 132 kv Sibi-Harnai Transmission Line was damaged by explosion but supply continued unaffected. According to details, unknown terrorists caused serious damage to tower No 69 of 132 kv Sibi-Harnai Transmission line near Nari Gauge about 22 Km from Sibi. US senator says Afghan bases should be permanent: KABUL, Feb 22: A bipartisan group of U.S, senators pledged long-term support for Afghanistan today and influential Republican John McCain said he saw the need for permanent joint military bases in the country. Palestinian PM agrees to revamp cabinet: lawmakers - RAMALLAH, Feb 22: Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurie agreed today to revamp his proposed cabinet with more reform-minded ministers and present the new government to parliament on Wednesday, legislators said. At least 420 killed in Iran quake: TEHRAN, Feb 22: More than 420 people were killed in a violent earthquake in southeastern Iran today but there are fears the toll could rise sharply, local officials said. Another 1,000 have been injured, natural disaster services official Mohammad Javad Fadaie told state televison. No Pakistan tour of India if TV telecast row continues: NEW DELHI, Feb 22: Indian cricket board president Ranbir Singh Mahendra apprehends that upcoming series against Pakistan might have to be scrapped if the imbroglio over TV telecast rights is not resolved soon. "I'm hopeful the matter will be sorted out quickly as there's hardly any time left," Mahendra said. "If that doesn't happen, we'll even request the court to allow us to proceed and make necessary arrangements."
