FM Kasuri backs Security Council bid of Japan but not India: TOKYO, Feb 22: Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri voiced support today for Japan's goal of a permanent seat on the UN Security Council but had reservations about the bid of India, a diplomat said. Kasuri held talks with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on the situation in Pakistan's neighbor Afghanistan and Japan's plans to resume yen loans to Islamabad among other issues, Pakistani ambassador to Japan Kamran Niaz said. In a separate meeting Kasuri told Japan's main opposition leader Katsuya Okada that there should be "objective criteria" on choosing members of an enlarged UN Security Council. President General Pervez Musharraf had summed the session. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz went to Tehran with high expectations of "substantial progress" on the scheme, while Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi was in New Delhi, expecting to sign a memorandum of understanding with India. (PPI) (Posted @ 14:10 PST) Electricity tower damaged by explosion: QUETTA, Feb 22: A tower of 132 kv Sibi-Harnai Transmission Line was damaged by explosion but supply continued unaffected. According to details, unknown terrorists caused serious damage to tower No 69 of 132 kv Sibi-Harnai Transmission line near Nari Gauge about 22 Km from Sibi. Four foundations of the tower were damaged but the it remained standing and thus no disruption was caused to the electricity supply to the area. The five senators, including New York Democrat Hillary Clinton, said after talks with President Hamid Karzai that U.S. support for Afghanistan was in the interests of both countries. The compromise, following a one-day delay in parliamentary ratification of a cabinet, appeared to pave the way for new President Mahmoud Abbas to press ahead with promised reforms of the Palestinian Authority and peace efforts with Israel. Another 1,000 have been injured, natural disaster services official Mohammad Javad Fadaie told state televison. Officials have said the death toll could rise to several hundred. (AFP) (Updated @ 15:45 PST) No Pakistan tour of India if TV telecast row continues: NEW DELHI, Feb 22: Indian cricket board president Ranbir Singh Mahendra apprehends that upcoming series against Pakistan might have to be scrapped if the imbroglio over TV telecast rights is not resolved soon. "I'm hopeful the matter will be sorted out quickly as there's hardly any time left," Mahendra said. "If that doesn't happen, we'll even request the court to allow us to proceed and make necessary arrangements." Mahendra, however, warned that BCCI will not be looking for a temporary arrangement this time.
