No sign nuke tech went to al Qaeda - Jehangir Karamat: WASHINGTON, Feb 11: Contrary to global fears, there is no evidence that Abdul Qadeer Khan sold nuclear technology to al Qaeda or any other militant group, Pakistan's ambassador to Washington said. The network of scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan was no longer operating and its Pakistani elements had been wiped out, Ambassador Jehangir Karamat said in an interview with Reuters. However, some of Khan's international associates might still be doing illicit business abroad. Karamat also said that even through Pakistan had no idea where to find al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden or his deputy Ayman al Zawahri, the Pakistani government had broken the back of al Qaeda's presence in the country.    (Reuters) (Posted @ 14:00 PST)

Pakistan, India should both get F-16 jets-envoy: WASHINGTON, Feb 11: Pakistan would not object to India buying American-made F-16s if Islamabad is also permitted to acquire the sophisticated fighter jets, Pakistan's ambassador to Washington said. "As long as we are on the list for F-16s, it's all right if India gets them," Ambassador Jehangir Karamat told Reuters. Seventeen killed in car bomb attack south of Bahgdad: HILLA, Feb 12: Seventeen people were killed and 16 wounded today by a car bomb in the town of Musayyib, south of Baghdad, police and medical sources said. Police Lieutenant Mohammed Tamimi said the bomb, near hospital and local council building, was not a suicide attack. Gunmen kill senior judge in southern Iraq: BASRA, Feb 12: Masked gunmen assassinated a senior judge in the southern Iraqi city of Basra today, a Reuters witness and doctors said. Video footage showed the body of the judge, Taha al-Amiri, lying in a hospital mortuary following the attack. Schroeder calls on US to support EU approach to Iran: MUNICH, Feb 12: German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder called today on the United States to "actively" support diplomatic efforts led by three European Union countries to persuade Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions in exchange for security guarantees. "I strongly encourage the US administration to actively support the Europeans' diplomatic efforts," Schroeder said. Turkey to retake command of NATO-led force in Afghanistan: KABUL, Feb 12: Turkey is to retake command of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, a peacekeeping spokeswoman said today.
