Al-Qaeda number two hits out at US in new audiotape: DUBAI, Feb 11: An audiotape purportedly of Al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri hit out at the US concept of freedom, saying it was a cloak for spreading corruption and injustice in the Islamic world. Liberty as construed by the Americans was based on "usurious banks, giant companies, misleading media outlets and the destruction of others for material gain," charged the voice in the recording aired by Arabic news channel Al-Jazeera. Real freedom was "not the liberty of homosexual marriages and the abuse of women as a commodity to gain clients, win deals or attract tourists," said the voice. "It is not the freedom of Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib," it said, referring to US-run prisons in Cuba and Iraq where serious allegations of torture have been levelled.    (APP) (Posted @ 10:45 PST)

Bulgarian ex-King's govt faces no-confidence vote: SOFIA, Feb 11: Bulgaria's opposition, clamouring for position ahead of summer elections, will try to topple Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg in a no-confidence vote today for perceived home policy failures in the EU aspirant state. The former monarch's two-party coalition had ruled in a minority until this week, but it signed a power-sharing deal on Monday giving it a comfortable majority in parliament and should safely survive the motion. "Today's vote is pre-determined. There is no question of the outcome," Borislav Ralchev, a leading deputy in Saxe-Coburg's Movement for Simeon II party (NMS) said on Nova TV. The opposition must muster 121 of parliament's 240 votes to oust the government in the ballot, expected at 1700 GMT, but under the agreement with its new allies, the splinter New Time party, the government controls 131 seats. But the attack is a setback for Saxe-Coburg, who is finding that Bulgarians' respect for his regal status has not overcome their anger at low wages and persistent corruption and organised crime.    (Reuters) (Posted @ 15:10 PST)
