SUKKUR, Feb 8: Heavy rain in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot and Ghotki districts paralysed life in the upper Sindh.

Business activities were suspended and power supply disrupted and the drainage systemcompletely failed which caused miseries to residents in almost all cities and towns.

Chilly winds and cold increased in the area after the heavy rainfall.

In Sukkur, it started to rain at about 3:00pm and continued with short intervals till filing the report. All the main bazaars and markets were closed due to non-availability of power.

Several power breakdowns occurred in different localities and Hesco employees failed to restore power to the entire city. The entire drainage system collapsed due to power disruption while water shortage also occurred in the city.

There was no power supply to Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Ghotki districts while other towns were partially disturbed.

Hesco sources said power supply could not be restored in Thull, Kandhkot, Jacobabad and Shikarpur till tomorrow afternoon.

The supply of drinking water was also suspended as a result of power failure throughout the day. All main roads and bazaars in rain-hit cities and towns were inundated with rain and sewerage water. The power supply in these areas was not restored till filing the report.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Heavy rains hit the entire district on Tuesday, starting at 2pm and continuing till 5pm. As a result, sewerage system collapsed in many parts of Naushahro Feroze, Moro and Padidan towns, causing inconvenience to the residents, and vehicular traffic and pedestrians faced hardships.

In most of the localities in Naushahro Feroze, streets were inundated with rainwater. Power supply remained suspended since the morning in Naushahro Feroze and other parts of the district.

SHIKARPUR: Shikarpur and its surrounding areas continued to receive rain on Tuesday for third day.

The farmers' community was happy due to rainfall because it would benefit the wheat crop and reduce water shortage.

Businessmen and residents have been facing hardships for three days, particularly on Tuesday when power supply remained suspended for 10 hours.

KHAIRPUR: Heavy rain hit the district from morning till evening on Tuesday. The rain caused an increase in the cold and disturbed gas, power and telephone system. Power supply remained suspended for about 10 hours.

Rainwater submerged streets in different colonies of Khairpur city where drains could not cope with the situation and started to overflow.

Due to heavy rain and suspension of power supply, trade activities remained suspended in the city.
