Shoaib fails to submit explanation

LAHORE, Feb 7: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not received any reply from paceman Shoaib Akhtar on Monday about the allegations levelled on him by the board of breaching the central contract during the Australian tour.

PCB chairman Shaharyar M. Khan, who met Shoaib here on Friday and levelled the charges, had asked the bowler to submit his reply till Monday.

"We did not receive any reply from Shoaib and the PCB will be in a position to speak on the matter on Tuesday," a PCB spokesman said. Efforts to contact Shoaib went in vain. However, people close to Shoaib said that the bowler did not receive any chargesheet in written and he, as per instruction of the board, was working on his fitness beforfe the India tour starting from Feb 25.

PCB chairman after meeting Shoaib on Friday told journalists that he had pointed out to the bowler that he had violated at least four conditions of the contract.

The PCB sought Shoaib's clarification if he visited night club in Australia, why he reported late at the National Cricket Academy after being recalled from Australia, why he opted to take medical treatment from his private doctor Tauseef Razzaq instead of an official one at the academy and why he had been issuing press statements.

The chairman had also appointed a three-member committee of Imtiaz Ahmed, Abbas Zaidi and the board's legal advisor to study Shoaib's reply before taking further step.
