KARACHI, Feb 2: The chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) asked the chief justice of the Sindh High Court on Tuesday to have an inquiry conducted into allegations against a person claiming to be 'deputy registrar (legal)' of the Supreme Court.
A complaint against the accused was submitted to the CJP by Sarwar Ali of Malir. The complainant said the accused, Mian Mumtaz Ahmed of Natha Khan Khosa Goth, Malir, has encroached upon government land worth over Rs 1.5 billion near the airport through Malik Riaz and has sold 28 acres out of it.
He, too, purchased a plot and spent Rs 300,000 on raising construction over it. When he decided to lease out the plot together with the structure raised on it, they created hurdles and put pressure on him and other buyers of land. They also tried to kidnap his grandson.
The complainant said he had to file a petition before the district and sessions judge to get a first information report registered against the accused. One of the accused, Niamat Ali Kazi, was arrested while Mian Mumtaz, Malik Riaz and Raja Munawar were still at large. He requested the CJP to take action against the 'deputy registrar'.
Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui observed that no such person as named by the complainant was employed in the Supreme Court. In fact, there was no 'deputy registrar (legal)' in the court and prima facie, it was a case of impersonation.
He forwarded the complaint to SHC Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and asked him to entrust an inquiry into the matter to an additional district and sessions judge of Malir, who shall submit a report within a week of his assignment.
