34 pesticides to be put on generic list

ISLAMABAD, Feb 2: Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) has decided to bring 34 branded pesticides on the generic list after expiry of their patent rights. A notification to this effect has been issued.

Federal Minister for Food Agriculture and Livestock Sikandar Hayat Bosan here on Wednesday said that this was a major decision, which would allow pesticides to be imported by the registered pesticide importers without any discrimination.

The move, he said, would help in reducing the pesticides' prices to affordable level for the benefits of the growers and would encourage rational use of pesticides. Currently, he maintained, pesticide worth Rs10 billion were being imported annually. Following is the list of 34 branded pesticides brought on the generic list:

1) Chlorfenvinphos 10 G, 24 EC.; 2) Cyanofenphos 25 % EC; 3) Quinalphos + Thionmeton 32 EC (16.2% + 16.2%); 4) Etrimfos 50 % EC; 5) Fluvalinate + Thiometon (72 g/l + 200 g/l) EC; 6) Fluometuron + Prometryn 500 FW (w/v) (250 g/l + 250 g/l); 7) Fenpropathrin + Fenitorthion 50 EC (50 g/l + 450 g/l); 8) Deltamethrin + Triazophos 360 EC (10 + 350 g/l; 9) Tridiazuron 50 WP; 10) Metolachlor + Fluometuron 50 WP (25% + 25%); 11) Fluvalinate 2 E (25% w/w); 12) Flucithrinate + Mephosfolan (25+200 g/l) EC; 13) Difenoconazole 250 EC; 14) Furathiocarb 400 CS, 400 EC; 15) Tralomethrin 3.6 % EC (36 g/l); 16) Primicarb 50 % DP; 17) Cycloprethrin 10 EC; 18) Buprofezin + Fenpropathrin 250 EC (17.5 % +7.5 %); 19) Phoxim + Fenvalerate 50 % EC (45.5% + 4.5 %); 20) Chlorfluaazuron 5 EC; 21) Dichlorvos 50 EC; 22) Captan 50% (w/w) WP; 23) Phoxim + L-Cyhalothrin 29% EC (25% + 4%); 24) Aluminium Phosphide 56 % (ALP) Tablets, Pellets, Bags; 25) Cypermethrin + Profenofos 440 EC (40% + 40%), 220 ULV; 26) Phoxim 40 % EC; 27) Beta Cyfluthrin + Chlorpyrifos 262.5 EC (12.5 g/l + 250 g/l); 28) Deltamethrin + Endosulfan 328 EC (8 g/l + 320 g/l); 29) Imidachloprid + Cyfluthrin 50 (w/v) EC (25 % w/v + 25% w/v); 30) Flufenoxuron 10 DC (100 g/l); 31) Amitraz 20 % EC (w/v); 32) Emamectin Benzoate 1.9 % EC 5 WDG; 33) Cypermethrin + Chlorpyrifos 505 EC (45.37 % + 4.54%); and 34) Cypermethrin + Mephosfolan 50 / 300 EC.
