HYDERABAD, Jan 31: Provincial Police Officer Syed Kamal Shah has dismissed two police officers who had investigated the double murder case of a couple, reliable police sources told this correspondent on Monday.

The newly wedded couple, Mohammad Hassan Solangi and Shazia Khaskheli, had been killed on the pretext of karo-kari in Sanghar in October 2003. The sources said the police officers, inspector Zahid Ahmad Nasir and sub-inspector Pyar Ali Hingoro, had filed appeals against punishment earlier awarded to them by Hyderabad Regional Police Officer Bachal Sangri.

The PPO dismissed the appeals and terminated their services. The sources said the RPO had demoted inspector Nasir, sub-inspector Hingoro and senior investigating officer Arshad Prem of the Sanghar police station following successive inquiries in the matter.

The PPO had described investigation of the police officers in the matter defective and faulty. Besides inspector Nasir, SI Hingoro and investigating officer Prem, disciplinary action had also been taken in the matter against the prosecution DSP of Sanghar.

The Supreme Court had taken a suo motu action in the matter and called for inquiries by police. It had taken a serious notice of the defective investigation by police.
