Balochistan issue: govt urged to initiate talks

By Our Correspondent

BAHAWALPUR, Jan 26: MMA deputy secretary-general MNA Liaquat Baloch has warned the government of any military operation in Balochistan as it will undermine the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan.

He was addressing party men at the residence of MMA deputy parliamentary leader in Punjab Assembly, Dr. Syed Wasim Akhtar, after condoling with him the death of his younger brother here on Wednesday.

Mr. Baloch, the Punjab amir of the Jamaat-i-Islami, said military action was not a solution to any issue. He said the government should itself initiate dialogue with the tribal elders of Balochistan. He expressed the hope that sanity would prevail if the government entered into negotiations with Baloch leaders.

He told a questioner that the second phase of MMA's protest movement would be started after Muharram. He said the future course of action for the second round of movement was being finalized with the consultation of component parties of the ARD.
