Seven die in bazaar battle: MIRANSHAH, Jan 26: Seven people were gunned down in a tribal area of northwest Waziristan today when two clans decided to settle scores in the middle of a crowded bazaar, officials said. Government may face lengthy conflict on Afghan border: QUETTA, Jan 26: Forces, already stretched battling militants and guarding the Indian frontier, could be sliding into a protracted separatist conflict in a key province bordering Afghanistan, military officials and politicians say. Saddam could vote in Iraqi elections but won't for technical reasons: report - DUBAI, Jan 26: Saddam Hussein and his senior aides detained in Iraq have the right to vote in Sunday's elections but they cannot cast their ballots for technical reasons, an election official was quoted as saying today. 31 marines killed in US helicopter crash : BAGHDAD. 26 Jan: Thirty-one US marines were killed when the helicopter transporting them crashed in the desert today. The helicopter went down near the town of Rutba, about 220 miles west of Baghdad, while conducting security operations, the military said in a statement. It was not clear whether it was shot down or crashed in an accident. The aircraft was transporting personnel from the 1st Marine Division. Seven killed in Kirkuk car bomb: police - KIRKUK, Jan 26: Seven Iraqis were killed today in a car bomb against a police station in the disputed city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq, police said. Palestinian forces prevent mortar attack on Israel, seize weapons: GAZA CITY, Jan 26: Palestinian security forces in Gaza prevented a cell of militants from firing mortar shells into southern Israel, seizing their weapons, a Palestinian security source told AFP. "Members of the security forces in northern Gaza stopped militant group from firing three mortar shells into Israel," the source said. Romanian secret service says president targeted: BUCHAREST, Jan 26: Romania's secret service boss said today the criminal underworld was considering hiring foreign hitmen for a possible assassination attempt on new President Traian Basescu because of his anti-corruption drive. The outspoken Basescu won an upset victory against the ex-communist party's candidate in presidential polls in December, vowing to fight endemic graft in Romania. Explosions mar national day celebrations in India's northeast, one injured: GAUHATI, Jan 26: Suspected militants set off two explosions during India's Republic Day celebrations in this northeastern state capital today, wounding one person and creating panic among nearly 900 people taking part in a parade, police said.
