PESHAWAR: Eid celebrated in NWFP, Fata


PESHAWAR, Jan 23: The people of the NWFP and Federally Administered Tribal Areas celebrated Eidul Azha with religious fervour and zeal on Friday with a renewed pledge to work the solidarity of the country.

Eid prayers were offered at over 300 mosques and open places in the provincial capital while the main Eid congregation was held here at Charsadda Road Eidgah. Soon after Eid prayers, the faithful slaughtered animals to fulfil Sunnat-i-Ibrahimi.

The workers of the social welfare organizations collected hides. NWFP Governor Lt-Gen (retired) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah offered his prayers at the Eidgah which was led by Khateeb Qari Roohullah Madni.

The Khateeb prayed for the success and unity of the Ummah and called for brotherhood and tolerance. The ulema in their sermons threw light on the distinctive features of the day and prayed for strengthening national solidarity, integrity and sovereignty of the country.

They also prayed for the success of the Muslims who were being subjected to worst kind of treatment in different parts of the world, including those of the held Kashmir and Palestine.

After the prayers, the NWFP governor mingled with the people and exchanged Eid greetings with them. Later, the governor met the general public and government officials at the Governor House.

People belonging to different walks of life, including the parliamentarians, provincial ministers, MPAs and elected representatives of the district governments, called on the governor and exchanged Eid greeting with him. -APP
