Sikhs protest

KARACHI, Jan 20: Some 20 Sikh families, residing in Adam Khan Goth near Gulshan-i-Maymar on Thursday held a protest demonstration at the Press Club against alleged atrocities by a local landlord and closure of their worship place, Gurudawara Guru Nanak.

Carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the landlord, Vadera Alam Khan, Sikh men, women and children chanted slogans against disconnection of electricity of their worship place and threats being given to them to vacate their homes.

They demanded the Sindh governor, chief minister, home minister, IGP and other high-ups concerned to take stock of the situation, as in addition to threats by the local landlord, the area police were also pressurizing them for vacating their houses and the Gurudawara.

Later, talking to journalists, representatives of the protesters, Sardar Dhoni Singh and Sardar Krishan Singh, alleged that the Vadera was trying to grab the piece of land on which the Gurudawara and their houses where built, and forcing them to leave the Goth.

"He (Vadera) has also lodged a fake FIR against us, and on his behest local police is pressurizing and hurling threats on us", they alleged, demanding protection for their families. - PPI
