GUJRANWALA, Jan 20: The district crime control committee expressed dissatisfaction over the investigation procedure of police and torturing of innocent people at police stations without registration of any case against them.
A committee meeting on Thursday, presided over by district and session judge Javed Iqbal Siddiqi, the participants said the investigation officers did not perform their duty honestly and diligently. They arrest innocent people and torture them at police stations without registration of any case against them to show their efficiency.
The meeting warned that this practice should be stopped otherwise action would be taken against police officials indulging in such practices.
The meeting urged the police authorities to ensure production of accused before courts at 8am by the jail staff. They said the jail staff used to bring the accused at 11am as a result of which courts could not complete hearing of their cases which caused delay in announcement of decision.
Student killed: A student of an elementary school was crushed to death by a wagon on the GT Road here on Thursday.
Reports said Kundan Masih was on his way to his village Thatha Azam by his bicycle when a speeding wagon crushed him. Police have registered a case against the wagon driver and are investigating.
HELD: Two food inspectors were arrested on the charge of corruption by a raiding team of the Anti-Corruption Establishment here on Thursday.
Muhammad Akram and Muhammad Babar were booked in a corruption case after they were found guilty in an inquiry. The ACE team raided their houses and arrested both the accused besides recovering Rs200,000 cash from their possession.
