Police fire tear gas at Shi'ite protesters: ISLAMABAD, Jan 14: Police fired tear gas and used batons today to break up a rally by Shi'ite protesting against the death of their leader after a suspected sectarian attack. Up to 300 protesters turned unruly when police stopped them entering a road leading to the parliament in Islamabad. (Reuters) (Posted @ 16:40 PST) Tribal violence casts shadow on proposed gas pipelines: KARACHI, Jan 14: A series of violent attacks on the energy infrastructure in strategic southwest could have a major backlash on various multi-billion gas pipeline projects, industry experts said. Violence erupted five days ago at the state-run Sui gas facility, which the tribesmen who have long campaigned for more royalties and jobs from the plant said followed the alleged gang rape of a woman doctor. "This is something of concern to everybody," Asian Development Bank (ADB) country chief Marshuk Ali Shah said, as the tribe's chieftain predicted a major military assault. The SHC's division bench comprising Justice Ataur Rehman and Justice Zia Pervez was hearing the amended petition of doctor brothers challenging detention by provincial government. Government receives US$ 300 million from World Bank to support the development of its Banking Sector: ISLAMABAD, Jan 14: The World Bank approved a US$ 100 million credit and a US$ 200 million loan to support Pakistan's ongoing efforts at improving its banking sector. Ten killed as U.S. tank runs over minibus: BAQUBA/BAGHDAD, Jan 14: Ten Iraqis were killed and one injured today when a U.S. tank ran over a minibus in Muqdadiyah, police said. The minibus was occupied by people on their way to work, police said, adding the collision was accidental.
