Imran for united opposition to remove military ruler: ISLAMABAD, Jan 11: The Chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan today called for unity among all the opposition parties to remove the military present from the country. All the opposition parties should unite themselves at one point agenda to oust the military ruler from the politics, Chairman PTI said while talking to journalist here today. He said that democracy could not be functional in the country with its essence when military establishment indulges in politics. He said that the Parliament has been made a rubber stamp and could be dissolved by the President under 17th Constitutional Amendment adding that the inclusion of 17th constitutional amendment was contrary to the spirit of 1973 Constitution. Afghanistan sets new drive to disarm militias: UN - UNITED NATIONS, Jan 11: The Afghan government is tracking the country's private militias with international help, and hopes to begin disarming them before parliamentary elections, a U.N. official said. The project aims to fix the location of each irregular force and assess its size and type. This involves determining whether it is a rogue militia, a community-based self-defense group or a security force hired to guard reconstruction projects, said Jean Arnault, the U.N. special representative for Afghanistan. "Some, although not all, are among the main sources of insecurity and human rights abuses in certain parts of the country, and their activities are frequently linked to drug cultivation and trade," he said.    (Reuters) (Posted @ 10:25 PST)
