LAHORE, Jan 7: The District Coordination Officer Committee on Friday failed to submit its report proposing measures for the protection of the Lahore Fort against decay to the Punjab Environment Protection Tribunal for the second consecutive hearing of the case.

The Tribunal comprising Chairman Syed Zamir Hussain Shah and Member Mansoor Kaukab was informed that the report had not yet been finalized for submission before it.

Two sub-committees headed by the Punjab Transport Secretary and Parks and Horticulture Authority director-general along with the DCO Committee had submitted their reports on the last date of hearing in December.

The tribunal directed the EPD Director (North) to constitute a team including complainant Eco Watch Trust counsel Imran Ahmed Bhatti and Jehanzaib Nazir Malik for visiting the fort for the preparation of a report identifying the causes of decay and proposing measures for rehabilitation along with the cost estimates.

The Archeology Department director-general was directed to depute his representative to accompany the team and furnish information concerning the history and damage done to the Lahore Fort along with information about the history and construction data of the Badshahi Mosque, Hazoori Bagh and Marhi Ranjeet Singh for proposing preservation and improvement measures.
