India, Pakistan talks on Kashmir dam fail: NEW DELHI, Jan 07: Talks between India and Pakistan to resolve a dispute over a dam in Kashmir have ended without an agreement, an Indian official said today. "They have failed to reach an agreement," an Indian water resources official told Reuters, adding details would be given at a news conference today. Although the talks were officially scheduled for two days from Jan. 4, water resources officials of the countries extended negotiations into a third day to discuss specific technical issues but still failed to arrive at a settlement.    (Reuters) (Posted @ 14:05 PST)

Palestinian presidential candidate Barghuti arrested in Jerusalem: JERUSALEM, Jan 07: Palestinian presidential candidate Mustafa Barghuti was arrested on his way to Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa mosque in occupied east Jerusalem. Palestinian Militants Wound 4 in Attack : JERUSALEM, Jan 07: Palestinian militants attacked a group of Israeli civilians outside the West Bank city of Nablus today, wounding four people, including one who was in critical condition, according to the Israeli military. The attackers shot from a moving car, the military said. The attack came just two days before Palestinian elections. Front-running presidential candidate Mahmoud Abbas traveled to Nablus on Thursday, saying he hopes to resume peace talks with Israel after the election. Train Collision in Fog Kills 18 in Italy : ROME, Jan 07:- A passenger train and a freight train collided in thick fog today in northern Italy, killing about 18 people, rescue officials said. The crash occurred between the cities of Bologna and Verona, according to the Civil Defense department. Rescue officials in Bologna said about 18 people were killed. It was not known how many were injured. The first three cars of the passenger train were damaged, police in the nearby town of San Giovanni in Persiceto said. The ANSA news agency reported that the engine of the passenger train had derailed and one of the cars was smashed open. Rescue workers have removed six bodies from the wreckage, the report said, adding that ambulances and about 200 rescue workers were at the site and a helicopter had been sent from Rome.    (AP/AFP) (Posted @ 19:35 PST)

Fire kills 21 garment workers in Bangladesh: DHAKA, Jan 07: At least 21 people were killed and dozens injured in a fire at a garment factory today near Bangladesh's capital. Militants storm govt building in Srinagar: SRINAGAR, Jan 07: Militants stormed a government building in Srinagar and set it on fire today, killing a security guard and a worker, a security official said. Paramilitary soldiers rescued about two dozen people from the blazing tax building after a two-hour gunbattle in the heart of Srinagar as flames ripped through the floor above them.
