PESHAWAR, Jan 5: The city police recovered a man after an exchange of fire with kidnappers in Qilla Shah Beg area near Mohmand tribal region on Wednesday.
The city police were tipped-off about the attempt by kidnappers of taking hostage Mohammad Saeed, son of Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of Mansehra, to another hideout.
Saeed was kidnapped on Dec 27 allegedly by Ilyas and his three accomplices at the Karakuram Highway. The kidnappers had a plan to take Saeed to Mohmand Agency after keeping him at an unknown location for nine days.
The city police, on a prior information, blocked The Mechni Road in Qilla Shah Beg area near Mohmand Agency and signalled the vehicle of the kidnappers on Wednesday morning.
The kidnappers, instead of stopping the vehicle, opened fire on police and succeeded in entering the tribal region. Members of the law-enforcement agencies returned the fire. During the cross-fire, the kidnappers threw Saeed out of their vehicle and escaped in the tribal region.
FIA: The corporate circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) raided an office in Mingora and registered a case against four men on charges of dealing in illegal Hawala trade, official sources told Dawn here on Wednesday.
The sources said that a team of FIA went to Mingora from Peshawar and raided the office Jan Corporate at Bank Square in the main bazaar of Mingora on Wednesday. The team seized Rs350,000 from the office and many receipts and fax messages from Saudi Arabia and Dubai indicating that the Jan Corporate distributed about Rs5 million on Wednesday morning.
The FIA also arrested three men - Sher Mohammad, a resident of Swat; Shaukat Iqbal, a resident of Charsadda; and Mohammad Anis, a resident of Dara Adamkhel. All the accused were brought to the local police station. But the police set the accused free on personal surety, the official sources said.
However, the FIA also registered the case against Shah Faisal, a resident of Dara Adamkhel, who was the owner of the Jan Corporate and running the Hawala business from Karachi Market at Soekarno Chowk in Peshawar.
