Pakistan, Afghan border troops exchange heavy fire: ISLAMABAD, Jan 04: Tension flared on the hazily-defined border between Pakistan and Afghanistan with troops from both sides exchanging artillery fire, a Pakistani military spokesman said today. Afghan troops used "heavy weapons" to hit the Saidgai area of North Waziristan region, military spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan said. "They used long-range and heavy weapons and our own troops responded," Sultan told AFP. Government charges two with killing Aga Khan staff: PESHAWAR, Jan 4: Two alleged members of a banned militant group have been arrested and charged with an attack which killed two employees of a charity run by the billionaire Aga Khan, police said today. Hostage-takers surrender: Peruvian president - LIMA, Jan 04: Ultra-nationalist insurgents holding 17 people hostage in Peru laid down their arms today, ending a stand off with authorities sparked by their New Year's Day seizure of a police station, Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo announced. "They are in the process of handing over their weapons right now" in Andahuaylas, south eastern Peru, where the hostage crisis occurred, Toledo said.
