PESHAWAR, Dec 31: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Friday ruled out any compromise on Islamic teachings and injunctions, and said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal had been voted to protect religious values and bring laws in consonance with the Islamic injunctions.

Addressing various public gatherings during his day-long visit to the Bannu district, he said that people's attachment and adherence to the religion was categorical. He said people had rendered tremendous sacrifices to uphold Islamic values and they would demonstrate the same spirit in future.

The chief minister said he had the backing of ulema and held out the assurance that he would never let down the ulema and the people. He called upon the people to strengthen the hands of ulema who, he added, could help them get to their destination.

He said that ulema and the masses were united against the elimination of religion column in the passport and they would soon launch a struggle against the step. He said any interference in the religion affairs was unacceptable and intolerable.

Talking about the province's rights, he said his government would continue to raise its voice until the province got its due rights. Mr Durrani said efficient services in health and education, provision of justice to all and sundry and giving relief to the masses were priority areas of his government. He said a clear-cut policy had been evolved to mitigate people's sufferings.

"We wanted to give a system that could work in accordance with people's aspirations and we set a new style of governance in the province." He directed the authorities to take immediate steps for the provision of specialist doctors for all wards of the Bannu Hospital.

Referring to the problems of the paramedical staff and doctors, the chief minister said that a committee had been constituted which would soon finalize the service structure for the staff.

He announced opening of the OPD in the evening at four hospitals of the province. He also announced Rs600,000 for Falah-i-Insaniat Organization, Bannu. He said development activities in the district would continue and added that all big problems of the Bannu Qaumi Jirga had been resolved.

He assured that the educated youth of Bannu would be provided jobs in the FC Platoon. He said merit would be the criterion for giving jobs and added that the process would be transparent.
