PESHAWAR: Doctor found dead in hostel room

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Dec 12: A doctor of the Mission Hospital was found dead in his hostel room while a customs clearing agent was kidnapped in Khyber Agency on Sunday, sources told Dawn.

Sources said Doctor Mohammad Ishaq was living in the doctors' hostel. His colleagues and other staff of the hospital broke open the door of his room on Sunday morning because he did not come to the hospital for two days.

There was smell of natural gas, which indicated that the doctor might have died due to suffocation, police officials said. In another incident, Nazir, son of Bashir, was killed after receiving a bullet in a wedding ceremony of his friend in Yakatoot Area on Saturday night, a police official said.

The victim had come from Karachi to attend the marriage and was firing in the air when all of a sudden the bullet hit him, said the police official. He was rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital where he expired on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, a clearing agent, Mohammad Khurshed, was kidnapped allegedly by a rival, Pakistan Khan, in Torkham border town in Khyber Agency on Sunday.

Sources said that after the kidnapping, the political administration had sent a jirga of local elders and Khasadar force to the residence of Pakistan Khan in Landi Kotal area to convince him for the release of Khurshed. But he denied to release Khurshed, saying that he had some monetary dispute with the clearing agent and could not release him unless someone gave a guarantee for the return of his money.
