DADU: Closure of schools criticized

DADU, Dec 10: Residents of Lakho village in Sehwan taluka staged a demonstration in Bhan town on Friday in protest against the closure of schools for boys and girls.

They said that primary schools in their village remain closed for six months and officials of the education department had made no efforts to reopen them. They appealed to the Sindh education minister to take immediate action.

Meanwhile, students of the Ustad Bukhari Degree College boycotted their classes on Friday in protest against alleged misappropriation in college funds. They also took out a procession from college to the press club.

Jeay Sindh Students Federation college leader Habib Korijo led the protest. Students alleged classrooms of the college were in a dilapidated condition and a huge amount from college funds had been embezzled. They demanded holding of a probe into the use of funds.

SECRETARY: Sindh Secretary for Ushr and Zakat named on Friday 13-members of the district zakat committee. Pir Khurshid will be the chairman of the committee.

Other members include Mian Solangi, Shabbir Tebani, Shahzad Ali, Bashir Ahmed, Ali Nawaz, Qadir Bux Shoro, Zaman Gabol, Razia Korijo, Akhtari Begum, district zakat officer, DO revenue and DO social welfare.

Students protest: Students of primary schools here on Wednesday boycotted their classes to protest against the failure of town police to arrest the accused involved in the rape of a minor girl.

A procession was also taken out on the occasion which was attended by area people, students, social workers and relatives of the victim in large numbers. The protesters, after marching through different roads, staged a demonstration in front of the press club.

The protesters complained that three days had passed since the shocking incident but the police had so far been unable to arrest the culprits involved. It is reported that a man, Allah Bux Pirzado, allegedly kidnapped a minor girl who was returning to her house from school, took her to an isolated place and assaulted her.
