LAHORE: PU launches IR programme

LAHORE, Dec 8: The Punjab University's political science department has launched a masters programme in International Relations.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony on Wednesday, vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood said the masters programme in IR would equip students with the latest knowledge to understand regional conflicts and analyze the issues in a better way.

With the emergence of new global culture, he said that international relations' study had assumed great importance. He stressed that the department should churn out best strategy makers to serve the country. Department's assistant professor Ambreen Javed briefed about the developments made by the department.

NEW BUILDING: The PU VC laid a foundation stone for the construction of building for mycology and plant pathology department on the New Campus. Speaking on the occasion, the VC said the university was fully utilizing the Higher Education Commission's funds following the university policy approved by the syndicate.

He said the HEC had provided Rs525 million to the university for the infrastructure and academic developments during the recent years, while more funds of Rs788 million had been approved for various projects. Besides, he said, the university had further proposed development projects worth Rs726 million to the commission.

With the increase in infrastructure and facilities, he said more disciplines had been launched and the student ratio increased from 9,000 to 23,000 in recent year. While the university was planning to admit 50,000 students during the next five years, he said. Mycology and plant pathology department chairperson Dr Rukhsana Bajwa said the department was planning to set up a herbal heritage garden.
