KARACHI: Mandatory refresher course for teachers

KARACHI, Dec 7: The Sindh Education Minister, Dr Hamida Khuhro, with regard to about 7,000 teachers to be recruited, said in a meeting on Tuesday that they would be imparted three months training before their posting.

She also declared as mandatory a two-week refresher course every year for the 1,38,000 teachers of the Education Department, adding that the department had 100 master trainers.

With regard to the decision about start of the new academic session in the province August instead of April, she said that directives to this effect had been issued and a high-level standing committee of the department would chalk out a schedule in this respect.

Dr Hamida viewed that it was difficult to maintain consistency in the academic session starting from April because of a two months summer vacation break. She also asked the education department to make arrangements for teaching English from class one, while stressing the need for imparting training to teachers in this respect.

The minister described as historic the announcement by the federal education minister about an increase of 100 per cent in the education budget. - APP
