KARACHI, Dec 6: The District Development Working Party has accorded approval to new schemes, which are estimated to cost Rs273.893 million, for the development of different areas of Karachi.

A meeting of DDWP was held under the chairmanship of DCO Fazlur Rehman here on Monday in which various project directors gave briefing about proposed projects. The four-hour-long meeting was attended by EDO (Works and Services) Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, EDO (Finance) Shakil Naqvi, Nazim's representatives Engr Saleem Azhar and Abid Ilyas, and concerned district officers.

The meeting decided to take immediate steps for implementation of development schemes with removal of bottlenecks in the way by the engineers concerned so that the pace of development could be accelerated.

The meeting gave approval to water and sewerage schemes in different parts of the city, construction and carpeting of roads, repair of streets besides beautification of spaces under flyovers, development of parks in various areas as well as beautification of coastal areas.

The schemes are included in Taameer-i-Karachi Programme, Priority Programme of Senators, MNAs and MPAs as well as city government's projects. It was decided to aesthetically develop the area facing Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim falling within the jurisdiction of city government along the coastline so that cheaper recreational facility could be made available to people.

The DO Parks was directed to submit a plan in this regard within three days. The meeting also decided to make massive plantation in Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim for its beautification while steps would be taken for disposal of sewage.

On the occasion, DCO Fazlur Rehman said that no compromise would be tolerated on the quality, timeframe and cost of the projects. The EDO (Works and Services) was directed to keep inspecting the projects while DCO himself would pay surprise inspection visits. - APP
