LAHORE, Dec 6: The accident at Sozo Water Park has been termed an act of negligence on the part of the government and the park management. This was stated by the Citizens' Commission for Human Development spokesperson in a news release issued here on Monday.

He said it was shocking that no rules and regulations existed for the safety of children's lives despite the occurrence of many such incidents in the past like death of children in a Karachi amusement park, breakdown of cable cars in Patriata and death of a child at Lahore Joy Land.

He demanded that the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau should immediately constitute a board of experts and concerned citizens to frame rules and regulations on safety and maintenance of such parks.

Similarly, a monitoring body of local and foreign institutions and organizations should also be established to oversee the running of such amusement parks, he added.

QUDSIA LODHI: Punjab special education minister Qudsia Lodhi accompanied by chief minister's advisor Dr Faiza Asghar on Monday visited the Ghurki Trust Hospital and inquired after the health of girl students injured in the Sozo Water Park ride collapse.

They met 20 injured girls admitted to hospital and asked about the healthcare facilities being provided to them. Most girls had fractured arms and legs. The patients told the minister that the cause of mishap was loose screws and overloading. The minister said that stern action would be taken against the people found responsible for the accident.
