ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: The Election Commission has asked the public to get their names registered in the electoral rolls so that free, fair and transparent local government elections could be held in the country next year.

Speaking at a meeting of provincial election commissioners, Secretary Election Commission (EC) Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad said 2,100 personnel were deputed to assist the Election Commission in updating of the electoral rolls.

He said the last date for filing of applications for enrolment as voters was December 31. He also asked the provincial election officials to take all necessary measures to enable the eligible voters to get themselves enrolled.

The PECs and the joint secretaries in their reports stated that they had visited the display centres and observed that all necessary arrangements were made for enrolment of eligible voters in the electoral rolls enabling them to participate in the forthcoming local government elections.
