KARACHI, Nov 28: The work of laying waterline in the third resettlement site for the affected families of the Lyari Expressway project would be started in the next few days.
This was stated by the concerned officials who briefed Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Ghulam Sarwar Khero about the status of rehabilitation work at the resettlement site near Naval Colony, Baldia Town, on the Hub River Road.
Mr Khero, who visited the site, was informed that cost of laying the pipeline, estimated at Rs120 million, was being shared by Suparco and the LEW Resettlement Project as Suparco employees would also benefit from the water supply scheme.
The officials informed him that the pipeline was being laid under the technical supervision of the KWSB. They said that the work on power supply, pending for want of material, would also begin next week.
They said that the resettlement site was spread over an area of 157 acres with total number of plots being 2,924. There would be six schools, two colleges, four mosques and eight parks/playgrounds, one community centre, one vocational centre and a hill park in the housing scheme.
The ACS went round various sectors of the site and appreciated the construction of a mini civic centre where offices of different utilities and other departments have been established to facilitate the resettlement process.
Sarwar Khero also visited the newly constructed building for girls technical centre. The building has been constructed under the LEW Resettlement Project whereas Pakistan Baitul Maal would be responsible for its administrative affairs and infrastructure.
The ACS was informed that under the project, three schools were being established but more would be required. He promised that the requirement would be met through the ADP.
Director Works Niaz Soomro briefed Mr Khero about the planning of the resettlement process and ongoing development works. The ACS also planted a sapling at the site. Project Director Shafiqur Rehman Paracha was also present on the occasion. --APP
