ISLAMABAD, Oct 20: The education ministry has set up a working group to review school level curriculum in the country to ensure it is error-free.

The decision was taken on Wednesday during a meeting held here at the ministry with Education Minister Lt-Gen (retired) Javed Ashraf Qazi in the chair, said an official statement.

The meeting also reviewed the progress made on the goals and objectives, which the education minister as a policy measure had submitted to the prime minister on behalf of the education ministry.

The minister maintained that the report of the group would be examined with the help of ministries concerned and the final recommendations would be submitted to the cabinet in June 2005 for approval.

Qazi told the meeting that for an effective implementation mechanism, another goal of the education ministry would be to restructure itself into an effective machine, able to perform the assigned tasks.

He said: "Unless our own house is in order, how can we put the whole education system of the country in order".

He also gave November 30 deadline to the secretary education, Sajid Hasan, to reorganise the ministry, as was committed in the goals and targets of the ministry.

The minister also directed the ministry officials to work on the mid-term reviewing of the National Education Policy 1998-2010.

He maintained that since five years had passed, the policy needed to be reviewed keeping in view the recent developments and the commitments made by the country with the international donors.

The draft report of the committee would be published in the national and regional media for public opinion and the views of other social sector ministries would be collected by May 15, 2004, for putting forward the revised National Education Policy to the cabinet by May 31, 2004.

The minister further maintained that to ensure proper and judicious utilization of the funds and to carry out a ground check of the progress reported by various beneficiaries of the national or international funding in the education sector, an evaluation system would be set up by November 30, 2004, for the purpose.
