KARACHI: Sindh govt to set up orphanage

KARACHI, Oct 11: An orphanage, Siratul Jannat, would be established in the city during the holy month of Ramazan, it was decided at a meeting held on Monday at the Chief Minister's House, chaired by Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

According to a press release, the orphanage will be modelled on the pattern of a similar institution in Murree. For the purpose, Dr Rahim ordered immediate renovation of the Alfalah Building, which is occupied by the Korangi police.

For the immediate functioning of the orphanage, Rs2.5 million have been provided from different sources, including Rs0.9 million each from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) and Landhi- Korangi Industrial area, while Rs0.2 million have been donated by the chief minister from his personal account and other sources.

A similar orphanage would be established at Larkana also, for which a philanthropist had promised to provide a piece of land and money, said the handout.

For the purpose, a joint account would be opened which would be run by M Ahmed Qureshi and Zafarul Haq. The provincial education secretary, Nadir Sarkhian, Siraj Kassam Teli and Zuber Motiwala also attended the meeting, added the handout.
