SIALKOT, Oct 7: Police have widened the scope of investigation being carried out into the mosque blast tragedy, but yet to come up with any solid evidence even after a week. The intelligence agencies also have not made any headway in the case so far.
Sources said the teams were probing the incident on different lines and according to preliminary investigation, the role of the private security guards of the Jamia Zainabia mosque in the incident could not be ruled out.
Meanwhile, Punjab CID DIG Muhammad Shafiq, Gujranwala Range DIG Altaf Qamar, Sialkot DCO Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi and officials of intelligence agencies again visited the site of the blast to glean more information about the tragedy.
FREE EDUCATION: The district government has announced that it will provide free education to the children of the blast victims. He said all the government and private educational institutions in the city would remain closed on Friday (today) to mourn the tragedy.
At a meeting presided over by District Nazim Mian Naeem Javed here, the officials reviewed the law and order situation and expressed satisfaction over the recovery of peace.
The Nazim has also announced that he will chalk out a multi-dimensional security plan under the supervision of the District Peace Committee. The role of the committee, he said, was being made more effective in maintaining law and order.
DISTRICT COUNCIL: A special mourning session of the district council would be held at the Anwaar Club Auditorium on Saturday (tomorrow) at 11am. Convener Chaudhry Arsal Waqar Ghuman will preside over the session.
ULEMA: A delegation of over 70 religious scholars belonging to different sects visited the Zainabia mosque under the banner of the Jamiat Ittehadul Ulema Pakistan.
Led by MNA Maulana Abdul Maalik and central Nazim-i-Aala Allama Ghulam Rasul Rashidi, the delegation blasted the incident and condoled with the bereaved. They offered fateha for the departed souls. The ulema pledged to cooperate with the government to promote religious harmony and fraternity and weed out terrorism from the country.
STRIKE CALL WITHDRAWN: Meanwhile, the Shiite community has withdrawn the call for strike against the government after having a profitable dialogue with the district administration. They had earlier decided to launch protest on Friday (today).
This was disclosed by District Nazim Mian Naeem Javed while talking to newsmen in the evening. He said ulema from all the sects had announced their support for the district government in maintaining peace and law and order.
SECURITY: Security has been heightened throughout the province after a bomb blast in Multan. Almost all the mosques, imambargahs, churches, seminaries and other public places have been manned by officials of law-enforcement agencies.
Sialkot DCO Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi told newsmen on Thursday that the management committees of all the mosques and other places for prayers had been reorganized and directed to hire private security guards as well.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-i-Ahle Sunnah Punjab chief organizer Allama Qari Khalid Mehmood has condemned in the strongest terms the Multan blast. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls.
