HYDERABAD, Oct 5: The director-general of the Sindh health services, Dr Hussain Bux Memon, has urged parents to get their children up to five years of age vaccinated against polio.

He said this on Tuesday while inaugurating a three-day campaign of administering anti-polio drops and giving vitamin-A capsules to children. He said 621,320 children would be administered anti-polio drops and given vitamin-A capsules during the campaign.

To achieve this target, he said, 14,849 mobile teams had been appointed and 1,773 fixed points and 945 transit points had been set up. He added that 3,163 area in charges and 605 zonal supervisors had also been appointed and the health staff had been provided with 5,717 motorcycles and 8,37 vehicles.

He warned that action would be taken against workers who were found negligent in performing their duty. Meanwhile, the Sindh coordinator of the national immunization programme, Dr Abdul Majeed Chhutto, and Qasimabad Union Council-I Nazim Ali Nawaz Kutrio administered anti-polio drops and gave vitamin-A capsules to children in the Services Hospital, Hyderabad. They stressed the need for people's participation in the campaign to eliminate polio in the country.
