KARACHI, Oct 5: Lorraine Ellison, a member of the Asian Business Development Network (ABDN) from Leeds, Britain, has said that a lot of opportunities exist for investment in the emerging economies such as Pakistan.

She was talking to APP at the premises of the British Deputy High Commission here on Tuesday evening. The 26-member delegation is on a week-long visit to Pakistan to explore opportunities for business and investment here.

A textile, fashion and design sector specialist, Ms. Ellison said that a lot of people nowadays are going to China and various other places and she thought it was important not to forget other emerging and developing economies such as Pakistan.

She said that her delegation was interested in a variety of sectors and pointed out that the ABDN was an Asian-based trade mission and majority of its members are of Pakistan origin. Ms. Ellison further stated that the members of this trade mission are very entrepreneurial.

She said that there are a lot of areas for business collaboration here but in particular we are looking at the ICT and the hi-technology industries where we have opportunities but certainly there are several other areas as well which we would like to explore.

Ms. Ellison was of the view that during this particular visit they will gather a lot of information and after that they will move on. Arshad Chaudhry, another member of the trade mission, expressed his interest in the call centres, medical transcription services as well.

He said that the 26-member delegation will spend three days each in Karachi and Lahore and two days in Islamabad. Chaudhry said that they are expected to have a meeting with Humayun Akhtar Khan and Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. -APP
